Did you know that Chris Mercouri is heading to her 30th basketball season? Definitely a Cyprus Record. She fell in love with the game of basketball and started her basketball career at the age of 14. The same age the legend Dimitris Diamantidis started playing basketball. She might be older than Dimitris Diamantidis but Chris will team up with 3D for the Celebrity game on the 26th of May at Costas Papaellinas Arena in Strovolos for the 2 on 2 basketball event by Stoiximan.
Starting her career with Kefalovrisos Kythreas she then moved to Ormidia both of which are no longer part of the Women’s Basketball League. From the year 2000 she begun to play with contracts with teams such as Achilleas Kaimakliou, APOEL, AEL Limassol, AEK Larnaka, Zenonas and Keravnos Strovolou. Chris won the Women’s Championship four times in her long career, two times with AEL Limassol and two times with Keravnos Strovolou.
Chris Mercouri represented the Cyprus National Team from year 2000 until 2007 and was also awarded the Basketball Player of the year 2004. Chris is a wonderful mother of three children aged 6, 8 and 10. She currently lives in Larnaka and she commutes to work in Nicosia where she works as a Primary School Teacher at the Junior and Senior School since 2000 (that’s another record).
